Introduction
Grade 9 titanium alloy,is an advanced α-type titanium alloy with a nominal composition of Ti-3Al-2.5V. It is developed for cold-processable pipe applications. Its strength is 20%-50% higher than pure titanium at room temperature and high temperature, and its welding performance and cold forming performance are better than TC4 alloy. The maximum operating temperature is approximately 315°C. Due to its lower Al- and V content,Grade 9 titanium alloy is also known as "Half 6-4". It is almost impossible to increase its strength through targeted heat treatment (age hardening). Its already excellent corrosion resistance can be further improved by adding small amounts of Pd (0.05%) or Ru (0.1%). Although the strength of Grade 9 is not as high as that of TC4 alloy, it is widely used because of its excellent cold working properties—in aircraft tubing for hydraulics and in athletic equipment.
